Our friendship with Christians in India began over 20 years ago when pastors Bruce and Sharon Oliver invited the late Rev John and Anna Babu to their new home in Abbots Langley.
This elderly Indian couple had established a thriving Christian work based in the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh which included a Christian school and many village churches.
The work continues, now overseen by members of the Babu family, and during his visits to India pastor Bruce has spoken at large public healing festivals in Hyderabad, Medak, Armoor, Nallajerla, Yeditha, Guntur, Ponnur and Chirala. Often, many thousands will gather at these events and join in the enthusiastic singing, receiving prayer for salvation, healing and deliverance.
In February 2005, Bruce was honoured to share a platform in Hyderabad with film star Jaya Sudha, who has a clear Christian testimony. Many hundreds responded to the altar call for salvation at these meetings and prayed to ask Jesus to become Lord of their lives.
On the east coast of India, in the state of Tamil Nadu, the Ark has established a relationship with Pastor Moses Prem Kumar of the Immanuel Christian Assembly of Chennai. Pastor Bruce led a team of 4 men from The Ark, who conducted their first healing festival inland from Chennai in early 2005. Pastor Moses hosted the festival and many other churches joined the 3 day event. Large crowds gathered to hear the gospel preached in the open air and to see for themselves God’s healing power.
One of the main reasons for visiting Chennai was to look at practical ways of helping the thousands who had lost everything when the tsunami struck on 26th December 2004. The Ark has sent regular gifts of aid into this needy situation through pastor Moses and it has been a great encouragement to see families in new homes, with clothing, fishing nets, food and blankets supplied through our giving.
Many orphans have been fed, clothed and housed by the local church in Chennai, supported by funds from The Ark. Pastor Moses is overseeing the relief work and full account has been given for the money sent.
